First Meeting of The Ninety-Nines, November 2, 1929

Empowered Aviation Sisterhood

The Ninety-Nines, Inc.® is an international organization of licensed women pilots present in 44 countries, with thousands of members worldwide. It was founded in 1929 at Curtiss Field in Valley Stream,   New York.

The organization was established by 99 female pilots for mutual support and the advancement of aviation.

Amelia Earhart was elected as the first president of the 99s, and the group's name was derived from the number of charter members.

As a non-profit, charitable membership corporation holding 501(c)(3) U.S. tax status, the Ninety-Nines are dedicated to advancing aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support.

Our International Headquarters is located in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. While there are other female pilot organizations across various states and nations, nearly all women of achievement in aviation have been or are members of The Ninety-Nines.
