“Get Your Summer 6 Pack: Basic Flight Instruments & Engine Parts”

Come join us for our monthly Hangar Huddle!

This month, we’re getting hands-on with the basics of aircraft instrumentation and engine components.

Speaker
Mary D., PhD, CFI candidate, A&P student

Description
Mary D. will provide a didactic and hands-on approach to airplane instrumentation including the description of the 6-pack steam gauge and glass panel. We will have a display of flight instruments and engine parts such as carburetor, magneto, starter, cylinder with valves, and fuel tank.

Learning Objectives

List the instruments in the pitot-static system
Explain the different pressures in the pitot-static systems: static versus dynamic pressure
Understand which pressures are sensed by the pitot tube and static port
Describe the gyroscopic instruments
Describe how the instruments work in normal, abnormal, and emergency situations
Identify the parts of the altimeter, vertical speed indicator, and airspeed indicator
Explain how glass panel works with regards to the 6-pack
Identify the parts of a carburetor, magneto, starter, and cylinder with valve
Explain how these engine parts work in normal, abnormal, and emergency situations
Describe what happens with these engine parts in abnormal and emergency situations
Self-assessment for all participants

Hangar Huddle is a monthly opportunity to connect with fellow pilots, share aviation goals, network, and learn something new together.
