Nancy Stratford Student Pilot Flight Training Scholarship

  • Nancy Stratford was a prominent figure in aviation, known for her extensive contributions to the field and her dedication to promoting women in aviation. Born on April 12, 1920, in Calgary, Alberta, Canada, she had a long and accomplished career as a pilot, flying over 100 different types of aircraft during her lifetime. Nancy was deeply involved in The Ninety-Nines, an international organization of women pilots, where she mentored many female aviators and played a key role in advancing opportunities for women in aviation. She passed away on December 4, 2011, in Friday Harbor, Washington.

    In honor of her legacy, the San Diego Chapter of The Ninety-Nines established the Nancy Stratford Student Pilot Flight Training Scholarship, which is designed to support female student pilots in their training. The scholarship reflects Nancy's lifelong commitment to encouraging and empowering women in aviation.

  • To be eligible for the Dottie Sanders Scholarship, the applicant must:

    • Be a female

    • Reside in San Diego County

    • Private Pilot students must have a current medical certificate

    • Private Pilot students must have passed their written test or have soloed

    • Funds may be used to help fund Private Pilot training

    • Must apply funds towards training within 90 days
